The name Ferrari is synonymous with aesthetic design, powerful engines, endless technical innovations and one of the most influential men in automotive history. With tremendous vision and an unbridled passion for motorsport, Enzo Ferrari led his company to unrivalled prestige and created a legend that lives on. Montblanc has dedicated the Montblanc Great Characters Enzo Ferrari Special Edition to this man and his passion for motorsport. Inspired by both the coat of arms of Enzo Ferrari's home town of Modena and the emblematic colour of the Scuderia logo, this edition honours Ferrari's second soul - the colour yellow. The dates of Enzo Ferrari's birth and his first racing victory are engraved on the cone, while his signature and the name of his father's workshop, "Officina Meccanica Alfredo Ferrari", are engraved on the top of the cap in reference to Enzo Ferrari's birthplace. It is crowned by the Montblanc emblem made of precious blue resin - as a further homage to the Modena coat of arms - and surrounded by elaborate metalwork reminiscent of a classic car radiator grille. Enzo Ferrari's first victory at the Circuito del Savio also marked the birth of the now famous Ferrari logo. Among the many spectators admiring Enzo Ferrari's courageous driving that day was the family of top driver Francesco Baracca, who had served in the same unit as Enzo's brother Dino during the First World War. Francesco Baracca's mother, Countess Paolina Biancoli, suggested that Enzo Ferrari use the emblem of a prancing, unbridled horse from her son's aeroplane on his racing car for good luck. The combination of the horse with the courage and will to dominate of a national hero made it an ideal symbol for Enzo. Nine years later, in 1932, the Cavallino Rampante was used for the first time on a yellow background to decorate a car at the 24 Hours of Spa, and the Scuderia Ferrari team took first and second place with two cars bearing the prancing horse. The cap of the Montblanc Great Characters Enzo Ferrari Special Edition is engraved with the Cavallino Rampante and the Countess's words: "Le porterà fortuna" ("It will bring you luck"). The first car built by Ferrari, the 125 S with twelve cylinders, left the factory in Maranello on 12 March 1947. Twelve engraved lines symbolise the twelve cylinders. Enzo Ferrari's motto "Passion cannot be described, it can only be lived" adorns the ruthenium-plated clip.
