ROSÉ
Rose wine, or rosé for short, is the perfect summer wine. It combines the lightness of white wine with the flavour of red wine. It is made from red wine grapes, which are fermented briefly so that only a little colour is added to the wine. Rose wine therefore has hardly any tannins. The flavours of rose wine are berry, floral and fruity. The colour of rose wine ranges from pink and salmon to orange and onion skin. Rose wines are also rarely made from red and white wine grapes. An excellent example is the Jeninser Schiller from the Obrecht winery.
When you think of rosé, you immediately think of Provence. There, this summer wine is enjoyed on the terraces and in the trendy bars of St. Tropez and the Côte d'Azur. The ideal serving temperature is between 8 and 10° Celsius, making it pure refreshment on hot summer days on the beach. Rose wine is not only cultivated and appreciated in Provence, however, but also in Spain and Switzerland.
Rose wine should be drunk young. Rosé is also known as a wine for lunch, as a terrace wine or as an afternoon wine. Rose wine is uncomplicated, palatable and easy to drink. Rosé is also one of the few food companions that harmonises wonderfully with vegetarian dishes and salads.
