Gin is in vogue. The spirit is based on juniper and is enjoyed neat or as an ingredient in many cocktails and long drinks such as gin and tonic, Martini, Negroni or Collins. The alcohol used can be distilled from any source material. As with other spirits, it is often made from grain. Gin gets its characteristic flavour from flavouring during or after distillation. The process varies depending on the flavouring agent, and there really are many of these botanicals. Juniper berries and coriander are mainly used.
