- -Gianni Riotta est né et a été élevé à Palerme, en Sicile. Son père, Salvatore, était rédacteur au Giornale di Sicilia et emmenait Riotta en voyage sur l'île. Riotta a été rédacteur en chef de Tg 1 de la Rai, le principal programme d'information télévisé italien, et de Il Sole 24 Ore, le quotidien financier italien. Ancien chroniqueur au Corriere della Sera à New York, il écrit aujourd'hui pour La Repubblica. Il a contribué à de nombreuses publications, dont le New York Times, le Washington Post et le Financial Times. Riotta a publié deux romans se déroulant en Sicile : Prince of the Clouds (Farrar, Straus and Giroux) et The Lights of Alborada (HarperCollins). Riotta enseigne à l'université de Princeton et est le doyen de l'école de journalisme de l'université Luiss à Rome.
