Rum is made from sugar cane and comes in light or dark colour. The difference in rum production is that the dark rum variety, also known as brown rum, is matured in barrels. Rum is made from molasses, rum agricole is made from sugar cane juice and spiced rum is flavoured rum. Rum is immediately associated with the Caribbean, and most bottles come to us from there. The countries where this fiery rum is produced are Martinique, Cuba, Jamaica, Guatemala, Brazil, the Dominican Republic, Barbados and the Bahamas. Well-known brands and producers are Zacapa, Centenario, Bacardi, Havana Club and Don Papa. Cachaca is Brazilian rum, Don Papa is a very well-known representative of rum from the Philippines. You will also find rum from Switzerland, which is made from sugar beet.
Cocktails with rum are popular and widespread. When mixing rum, you can quickly make Long Island Iced Tea, Cuba Libre, Daiquiri, Piña Colada or Mojito, to name just a few.
